Moira Kavanagh

President & Founder

Moira Kavanagh has spent her entire professional career working with nonprofit organizations. In over twenty years in membership development, she has designed and implemented successful direct response fundraising programs for national and regional nonprofits from one hundred members to hundreds of thousands of members.

She began her fundraising career managing strategic, creative and fulfillment elements of telemarketing campaigns for national advocacy and environmental organizations. Prior to founding MKDM in 1999, Moira developed and managed integrated direct response programs for progressive issue-based and social service organizations.

In addition to engaging donors and inspiring philanthropy for nonprofits, Moira is passionate about advancing knowledge and professionalism in nonprofit marketing and fundraising. She currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Bridge Conference, and also served as Co-Chair of the 2015 Bridge Conference, the nation’s largest direct response fundraising conference which brings together more than 2,000 fundraising professionals and is sponsored by the AFP-DC and the Direct Marketing Association of Washington. She is a past Board member and president of the Direct Marketing Fundraisers Association, and in 2013 she served as Co-Chair of the DMA Nonprofit Federation Washington Nonprofit Conference.

Moira is a frequent speaker on direct marketing membership development, blogger on donor action and philanthropy, and co-author of The Art & Science of Multichannel Fundraising.

Moira graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in English. As an undergraduate she served as President of Tufts Student Resources, the largest nonprofit, student-run business in the country.

Eliza Slone

Vice President, Strategy

With a background in data management and donor communications, Eliza Slone brings a unique combination of data-driven analytical and creative skills to MKDM clients. In addition to having extensive experience in fundraising strategy and integrated program development, Eliza is highly skilled in donor messaging, digital strategy and direct response copywriting.

Eliza served as Co-Chair of the 2016/2017 DMA Nonprofit Federation‘s Washington and New York conferences. In addition to being a leader in advancing education in the direct response fundraising industry, Eliza is an award-winning fundraising strategist. She has developed campaigns that have been recognized by the DMAW MAXI Awards, the DMFA’s Package of the Year competition, and Fundraising Success Magazine for their outstanding performance in renewing donors and raising funds.

In 2017, Eliza she received the DMA Nonprofit Federation’s first annual Rising Leader Award, recognizing achievement, innovation, and leadership in young professionals. She was recognized in 2011 by Fundraising Success as a Rising Star in its annual Fundraising Professionals of the Year Awards. She is also a co-author of The Art & Science of Multichannel Fundraising.

Eliza graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Amherst College, where she received her B.A. in English.

Charlotte Faulconer

Production Director

With millions of donor communications produced under her management each year, Charlotte Faulconer brings to MKDM clients deep experience in direct mail production management and multichannel direct marketing process and scheduling integration. As Production Director, Charlotte coordinates all supplier services, manages integrated campaign production calendars, and collaborates with account staff to ensure that all MKDM projects are on time, in budget and error-free.

Charlotte works with a large network of supplier resources individually chosen for their track record of providing the highest quality services and products at the best price to our clients. In addition to her role in assuring the utmost quality of direct mail and online campaigns, Charlotte provides development operations support and counsel to MKDM clients encompassing caging, reporting, postal and state registration functions.

Charlotte has a background in online and print production art, and has also worked as a copywriter and editor for numerous print publications. She graduated from James Madison University with a B.S. in Media Arts and Design.

Rana Cawlo

Production Director

Rana Cawlo began her career wearing many hats in the bustling marketing department of a national, traveling entertainment company. This is where she laid the foundation for her prepress, printing, and direct marketing skills which she carried with her in her transition to the nonprofit fundraising world.

Rana enjoys working for a cause and loves designing the plan, being a part of the outcome, digging into spreadsheets, organizing chaos, granular details, and learning each day. She has held senior-level positions at several agencies and production management firms, and even owned her own successful business. She has been fortunate enough to partner with large and small nonprofits throughout her tenure.

Rana holds a B.A. in Psychology from George Mason University is also PMP Certified and a Certified Scrum Master.

Matt Hepler

Account Director

Drawing on over a decade of experience in producing and managing marketing materials for a global membership association and nonprofit clients, Matt creates action-inspiring multichannel direct response campaigns for progressive, environmental, and cultural organizations. Leveraging precision project management skills and dynamic customer insights, Matt collaborates with nonprofit clients to better understand their objectives, engage and grow their constituencies, and realize a shared vision for a brighter tomorrow.

As Account Director at MKDM, Matt manages and consults on all aspects of his client’s fundraising programs including strategy development for digital and direct mail campaigns, reporting and program analytics, campaign messaging development, development operations, and copywriting.

Matt graduated from Houghton College with a B.A. in English and from the University of Tulsa with an M.A. in English Language & Literature.

Genevieve Shaw

Account Director

Genevieve Shaw brings a diverse background in political and nonprofit communications to MKDM, encompassing membership development, marketing, public relations and media. With past experience as a communications director and graphic designer, Genevieve draws from an extensive messaging, copywriting and database marketing toolkit to assist MKDM clients with their fundraising and membership development needs.

Genevieve manages all aspects of MKDM client programs including creation of digital and direct mail campaigns, reporting and analysis, campaign messaging development and copywriting.

Genevieve graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University with a B.A. in Foreign Languages with a concentration in Spanish and a double minor in Teaching English as a Second Language and Tourism and Events Management.

Sarah Mehalic

Account Director

With a decade of experience serving nonprofits in both agency and in-house roles, Sarah brings a dynamic perspective and a holistic approach to direct response fundraising.

Sarah provides comprehensive program management for MKDM clients, drawing on past success in marketing, development, and operations. Equal parts at home with strategy, creative development, and data analysis, she loves collaborating with clients to create integrated campaigns that deliver sustainable growth.

Sarah has specialized expertise in membership development and advocacy, particularly for environmental and cultural organizations. She has a deep understanding of visitor-based organizations and public-private partnerships.

Sarah graduated from Providence College with a B.A. in Political Science.

Joel Alter

Associate Account Director

With over 15 years of experience in direct response fundraising, working both internally at nonprofits and as a consultant, Joel brings a unique perspective to MKDM’s clients. He has a deep background in membership-based fundraising and engagement, especially for environmental and human rights organizations, with a strong focus on membership program growth, stewardship, and donor retention.

As Associate Account Director at MKDM, Joel develops successful direct mail and digital campaigns from initial conceptualization to final reporting. He collaborates closely with his clients and manages the many facets of their fundraising programs, which include copywriting, creative and messaging development, data analysis, and strategic planning.

Joel graduated summa cum laude from Hunter College with a B.A. in Comparative Literature and a minor in German.
